all programs take place at rocking the boat 812 edgewater road, bronx, ny



boatbuilding

Students in the boatbuilding program will complete the traditional wooden boat they began last building last fall. They learn all aspects of the boatbuilding process including reading boat plans, creating the molds around which the boat is built and designing planks. Students create something that is not only beautiful but really works. No prior carpentry experience is required.

on-water

The On-Water Program combines Maritime Skills and Environmental Restoration. Students will embark on half and full-day adventures exploring the waterways surrounding the Bronx. They will learn navigation techniques on wooden and fiberglass row and sailboats and act as caretakers, working to improve the ecological health of the Bronx waterways. For the first month of the program, On-Water students will also go swimming once a week at the Bronx YMCA.
