Voice is a collaborative youth group that is currently involves three Bronx-based organizations: Rocking the Boat, Action at The Point, and Youth Ministries for Peace and Justice. All of the youth groups bring their unified VOICE in order to reach their common goal: a better Bronx. These three youth groups meet twice a month to discuss issues that arise in our local community. Currently, we have been trying to promote support from neighboring organizations and to spread VOICE’s word. The more youth that get involved, the more problems the members of VOICE can fix. VOICE unites youth of the Bronx through education creating an empowered presence by forming a core support system, VOICE makes a difference.

VOICE Community Groups:

Rocking the Boat conducts the most field research out of all three groups involved in VOICE. As a result of this, we are the most aware of the most recent environmental problems. We then inform the other groups in VOICE like Action that has much more clout with the elected officials, and they proceed with the proper protocols for resolving the issues.

Youth Ministries for Peace and Justice rebuilds the neighborhoods of the Bronx River and Soundview/Bruckner in the South Bronx by preparing young people to become prophetic voices for peace and justice. We accomplish this through political education, spiritual formation, youth and community development, and organizing.

Action at The Point carries out more in-depth work with the community’s local issues. Believing in the area’s residents, their talents, and aspirations is Action’s greatest asset. They encourage the arts, local enterprise, responsible ecology, and self-investment in the Hunts Point community. Action accounts for so much of VOICE’s higher-level advocacy being that they are more acquainted with the political structure and elected officials of the Bronx.

Because VOICE is such a young group, we are very small. We are constantly trying to get our other partners involved in VOICE and bring their much needed expertise to the equation. We plan to spread the word in a more formalized way by having an open house to showcase the work we have already been doing and to inform other groups on how they can get involved.
