Description:

Help develop science, agricultural and nutrition-based curricula and gardening activities; implement daily agendas and trips with youth aged 10 to 15. Youth tend indoor and outdoor EarthBox gardens, explore science, agriculture and food issues. SCHEDULE: Part-time, 15 hrs/wk, Mon., Wed. & Thurs. Mon., July 6 - Sun., Aug. 16 + staff orientation, Mon.-Thurs, June 29 & 30, July 1 & 2, from 9a to 5p. REQUIREMENTS: Experience exploring urban gardening, science, nutrition and social justice issues with adolescents in community-based setting, using a positive youth-development model. Graduate or undergraduate students preferred. Bilingual Spanish/English a plus. COMPENSATION: $11-$14 per hour, depending on experience. North Cove Dock Hands - Dock Hands needed to help run the mega yacht marina . Starting at $1 5 per hour.

 

Sailing School Instructors - Instructors are needed at Manhattan Sailing School. The school's primary mission is to teach adults on J/24 sailboats. More recently, the school has added a teen program on the J/24s and now also Lasers & Sunfish for teens and adults and Optimists for kids.

 

Sailing Club Maintenance - Maintenance Staff needed to help maintain the club fleet of boats. Maintenance Staff inspect, clean and repair boats as needed. Starting at $15 per hour. Health insurance available after 6 months.

 

Sailing Club Dock Masters - Dock Masters needed to help members access the sailboats, answer phones and interact with the public. Weekday evenings from 5- dusk and Weekends from 9 a.m. to dusk. Starting at $1 5 per hour.

 

Mates - The is the introductory level into the maritime industry. Mates are needed to assist the captains running the harbor clubhouse and launch. Starting at $12 per hour. Mates who demonstrate good skill and employment habits may advance to positions such as Dock Masters, Maintenance, Customer Service and eventually begin working towards USCG-licenses.





Summer Positions in State Parks: Student Conservation Association

NY State Parks just received funds fro mthe Dept of Labour with Student Conservation Assoc to hire 150 17-19 year olds in the Hudson Valley, NYC, and Long Island state parks for positions in state parks that last 8-12 week positions.

Contact your local Workforce Investment Board.. The positions are for people who aren't on a college track to give them green job experiences. Also, a percentage of them may be fast-tracked for seasonals at State Parks.

 

Start date is 13 July 2009 (yes! this summer!)
