The very back-bone of Rocking the Boat’s On-water Program relies on the Program Assistants, Job Skills
Apprentices and the On-water Students. We are people just like you who found love for maritime life and the environment.
Carlos Duran
Carlos Duran is a 19 year old 2nd semester College freshman at Borough of Manhattan Community College. Carlos is skilled
in planting, public speaking and he has leadership skills. Carlos started Rocking the Boat in the Fall Semester of 2006
and he became a Program Assistant in the Fall Semester of 2008. The skills Carlos specializes in at Rocking the boat is
canoeing, rowing, sailing, fishing, water quality monitoring, and environmental science. Rocking the Boat prepares Carlos
for the real world by showing him communication skills, the importance of his job and the impact he makes. Rocking the Boat
also prepares him by showing him how to be more professional and how to work with people. Carlos plans on pursuing a career
as an environmentalist or a sailor.Devaron Jackson
Devaron Jackson is one out of many that works for Rocking the Boat. He is 24 years old and has been in the program for about
three years. Devaron is currently attending Monroe College and trying to get back on track and stay focused. He has a few
certifications such as CPR/first aid and is sail boat certified. Rocking the Boat has prepared him for the real world in a couple
ways like public speaking and building social skills. Also the program influenced his life because he met new people that he bonded
with that gave him advice about public speaking. The most memorable moment at Rocking the Boat was when he went to the five day
rowing trip during the summer of ’08.Lovett Evans
Lovett Evans is one of our most focused Program Assistants in Rocking the Boat. He is 19 years old and attends Mercy College.
Lovett has been with Rocking the Boat off and on from 2002. He has a certification in CPR. Rocking the Boat helps him specialize
in maritime skills, water monitoring, and facilitating the on-water program. There are many ways that Rocking the Boat has been
preparing him for the real world. Lovett feels like he has gained a great deal of work experience from other work, but here he
has the time to practice and improve many of his skills. The career Lovett plans to pursue is sound engineering and music for
film. |
