Earlier this month several Rocking the Boat students had a special opportunity to tour Dragon, a Class 40 racing sailboat that was berthed in New York for the Atlantic Cup. Owner and skipper Mike Hennessey along with crew Rob Windsor offered Rocking the Boat a behind the scenes tour at what life is like aboard one of these racing machines. The navigation station was a highlight, and most surprising to students was the fact that sailors sleep two hours at a time to race around the clock.
It was fun to see similarities between a high tech racing sailboat like Dragon and our own student-made boats back at Rocking the Boat. What a great opportunity!
Team Dragon went on to win the next leg of the Atlantic Cup – Mike and Rob give us some details in this post-race interview. We wish our new friends best of luck in their upcoming season!
