On my first day at Rocking the Boat, I remember that feeling of being in a new environment. My first thought was that boatbuilding was a task I wouldn't be able to accomplish. But I've learned new ways of looking at things since then. I've learned I'm good at working in a group and how to use new tools with skill. I like getting the job done and the feeling of accomplishment after. Rocking the Boat is out of the ordinary. It has changed what I want out of life. One of the careers I'm looking at now is architecture. My favorite memory is the day I learned how to row. It was a good day.

The one word I would choose to describe Rocking the Boat is 'beauty'. On the first day, I remember thinking we wouldn't be building boats by ourselves but just watching. I was wrong. Rocking the Boat has given me something to do with my free time and I've learned that you can use boatbuilding skills in other places too. The best part is seeing the boat finished and then riding in it. My favorite memory is the week-long sailing trip in the middle of the ocean.

Since joining Rocking the Boat, I feel like I've met a side of myself I never knew existed, I feel comfortable and loved. On the first day we had to introduce ourselves and I hated talking to people in big groups. I disliked having the spotlight on me. Since then, I've become more outgoing. I feel like I've grown. I take things a bit more seriously and I look forward to accomplishing a goal. I see the beauty in nature, now more than ever, and I see the art in boatbuilding and woodworking. The best part is all the skills I've mastered. My favorite memory is getting into the very first kayak and canoeing down the Bronx River, awesome.

I love Rocking the Boat. I still remember what I wore on my first day and who I met. I was very shy then. Being a part of Rocking the Boat has definitely changed what I want out of life. It has made me realize my deep passion for environmental science and I have decided to major in Ecology for college. A perfect day is partly cloudy with the sun shining on the river, working with people who appreciate the experience as much as I have learned to. Rocking the Boat allows me to walk through the door and forget about anything that was bothering me or that I may have been stressed about. It is Momma Maribel!

I was extremely excited and, although I didn't know what to expect, by the end of my first day I knew it was a great program. The people make the experience wonderful. It has allowed me to communicate with different people and I have more confidence. I've discovered that I'm a people person and now I want to pursue a degree in the social sciences. Rocking the Boat has made me realize that I can do what I set my mind to. My favorite memory is the time we spent on the Connecticut River. It was a week-long trip full of fun and bonding with friends.

Rocking the Boat has definitely changed what I want out of life. I had never put much thought into what I wanted to accomplish but it has helped me pinpoint my subject of study. My attitude has changed too. I'm more optimistic and outgoing and I've learned to keep an open mind. My first experience on the water was amazing. I love getting away from NYC for a while, so I really enjoy the camping trips. The Connecticut River trip was such as liberating experience. My perfect day is cool and windy where we get right to the water to row and then have a picnic at a park.

Everyone made me feel really welcome on my first day even though when I walked into the group of students I felt really awkward. Meeting new people and rowing has made me more focused and open minded. I love being more active. I also love working with children and Rocking the Boat has pushed me to go into the field I want to be in. My perfect day is rowing for a long time, hanging out talking to people.
